5 minutes with Backend Developer Luke Davies
My name is Luke and I’m a Backend Developer for Adapt. I came across a job advert for Adapt Digital and after looking at the website and seeing what they had to offer not only as a developer but to clients, I knew I had to apply. I’ve been interested in web development since I was a teenager but a friend of mine who is a senior developer gave me the stepping stones to get into the industry. It wasn’t until I was 17/18 that I developed my first website. Although it was basic, it gave me the foundation to continue to grow and become even better.
I am excited to have joined Adapt and I’m looking forward to putting my ever growing skill set to good use.
What was your initial impression on meeting the Adapt team?
I don’t think there could’ve been a better first impression. I first applied for the position knowing that the team is very solid so it was fairly easy to hit it off with the team straight away. A lovely bunch of people that have the same passion and drive for our job and want the same outcome as me.
When you were a child what did you want to be when you grew up?
Depending what age you ask. I think I wanted to be a cowboy at one point, to be honest anything and everything when I was a younger; typical kid attitude. When I started learning I.T. in school I became interested in how computers worked and what they looked like under the hood. It wasn’t until college where I realised code was my passion.
What’s the best piece of professional advice you’ve ever received?
At the very beginning of being a developer, I had been very fortunate to have support from a senior developer. He always said to me if you’re stuck on a problem it’s not the end of the world, don’t get stressed out over it. Go outside, take a walk, come back and 9/10 you will solve the issue you were facing. And that hasn’t failed me since.
What are your hobbies?
I have various hobbies, it depends on what I fancy doing week in and week out. At the moment it tends to be the gym every day but I regularly love to play American football and boxing. I also love being very social, so always doing something with friends in my spare time. Apart from that, I’m partial to a few hours of gaming every night.
If you could choose a superpower, what would it be and why?
Ooo, not sure if this is a superpower but the ability to have a photographic memory. I think it would be pretty cool to recall anything I’ve seen once or twice in the past. I guess it makes for a cool party trick? That and less time googling.
Tell me something about yourself that not many people know?
I don’t think anyone knows this but I have been learning how to ride a horse, other than that there isn’t much else that people don’t know about me.
